To be a good guitarist, you can't just sit on your butt and do nothing hoping you'll be amazing at guitar one day. Being good at any instrument takes, just like any other sport or game or whatever it is. First of all, you need to know the basics. Positioning, which fret to play in, which string to pluck, how to hold a pick, etc. Second, you need to know how to read every notes. Third, you need to practice every single day, about 2-4 hours a day. Fourth, learn a song that you like to play and enjoy playing it. Fifth, NEVER give up and keep going on, no matter how hard it is. Six, don't be greedy and all mad just because you can't do something. Be patient and keep on going. Seven, listen to many types of musicians. I listen to lots of different bands and how they play. Last but not least, record your playings and learn from your mistake.
That's an example of a guy who probably did all the steps above.
